A YEAR ROUND DIVE TANK IN BROCKVILLE
Would you be interested?
If you think a year round dive tank in Brockville would be a great idea then keep reading.
This tank will only be built if the diving community voices its support for it NOW before the key decisions are being made.
Where - located in the soon to be built Maritime Discovery Centre (MDC) located on Brockville's waterfront. The Centre is scheduled to open in 2012.
What is it - The tank would be a working exhibit where divers could demonstrate, train and teach while being watched by the MDC visitors. This would promote, and teach visitors about, diving in the 1000 Islands.
How Big is it - Still to be determined but the maximum size would be o Side to Side - 5.75m (18.8 ft) o Front to Back - 3.75m (12.3 ft) o Depth - 3.5m (11.48 ft) o Volume - 17,086 Gallons (64,677 Litres) o Simulated rock on three sides with a clear acrylic front.
What else would the tank be used for - There would probably be an interactive ROV control exhibit using the tank when divers weren't.
How much would it cost to teach a course there - That isn't set yet but assume $50 for two hours with a maximum of four students (instructors free). Some classroom time would be included.
How much just to "be in the water" when not instructing - The idea is to have divers in the tank as much as possible to make it interesting for visitors so there would be no charge for demonstrators to be in the tank. How do we make this happen? The money is already there to build it but, if there is little or no support from the diving community, that money will be used to build other exhibits in the MDC. There is no point building a dive tank without divers willing to use it.
If you would use this dive tank if built, please email me today and tell me how you would plan on using it (training/teaching) and for how long (hours per week/month). I need to make a strong case that this is a viable idea. Only you can help me do that.
